SYLLABUS INFORMATION - SPEECH

CURRENT SYLLABUSES

The 2009 – 2010 Manual of Syllabuses provides details of the speech syllabuses for 2009.

Teachers are reminded that no combinations of syllabuses may be presented for examinations.  This applies to old and new syllabuses, and Teacher and Performer diplomas.

Syllabus Withdrawal

Notice of Withdrawal – Speech and Drama Practical
Notice is hereby given that the Speech and Drama – Practical (2003 – 2004) syllabus will be withdrawn at the end of 2009. From 2010, the syllabus can no longer be presented for examination.

Notice of Withdrawal – Speech in Action
Notice is hereby given that the Speech in Action (2003 – 2004) syllabus will be withdrawn at the end of 2009. From 2010, the syllabus can no longer be presented for examination.

Evaluations

Drama and Performance
In 2008 the AMEB undertook a thorough evaluation of the Drama and Performance syllabus. The revised syllabus, published in the current 2009 – 2010 Manual, countenances a wide variety of feedback from users across Australia, as well as the experience of this syllabus in examination.

Voice and Communication
In 2008 the AMEB undertook a thorough evaluation of the Voice and Communication syllabus. The revised syllabus, published in the current 2009 – 2010 Manual, countenances a wide variety of feedback from users across Australia, as well as the experience of this syllabus in examination.

Glossary

As a result of the 2008 Speech syllabuses evaluations, the Federal Board has undertaken to produce a Glossary of Terms found in the Drama and Performance and Voice and Communication syllabuses. This Glossary will be made available as download from the AMEB Federal Website in early 2009.

NEW AMEB BOOK LENDING LIBRARY

The AMEB has received a generous donation of poetry, play, prose and theory texts which teachers may now borrow from the AMEB Centre at Claremont.

SPEECH NEWS

The AMEB Board has approved an alteration to Regulation 17 of the Speech Manual which allows prerequisites gained for ASDA and LSDA to be transferable to ADPA and LDPA. This is effective immediately.

The table referred to is in Regulation 17 on page 9 of the current 2009 - 20010 Manual of Syllabuses Speech Syllabuses.

GUIDELINES TO ASSIST TEACHERS PRESENTING SPEECH CANDIDATES

The following guidelines are to help teachers interpret syllabus statements when presenting candidates for various Speech Syllabus examinations. The guidelines are compatible with current syllabus requirements and have been approved by local Speech and Drama examiners.
